Impeachment And Recall Are Signs of Hope
Cross-posted from Dakota Lifestyle: Beyond the Weather
The recent impeachment of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich brought to mind some early North Dakota history. The first governor ever to be recalled in the United States was Lynn Frazier, who served as governor of North Dakota from around 1917 to 1921.
Politics in those days were messy. Farmers [...]

Cross Posted from Dakota Lifestyle: Beyond the Weather
Property tax reduction is a big issue this legislative session in North Dakota. There is talk of several proposals to do this, including the Executive budget which would decrease property taxes by providing a dollar-for-dollar decrease in school mill levies.
But one proposal takes an entirely different angle. Rep. Dan Ruby, R-Minot, suggests we do away with property [...]

Former North Dakotan Heads Massive Internet Event At Republican National Convention
“If you remember how television changed politics with the first televised presidential debate, not necessarily for the better, with our Grizzly Groundswell Strategy we have the potential to change politics in a good way, a Main Street Media way,” Everson said. ”We are unleashing conservative thought, voice and image with this online media empire.”

A Better Welfare System
I’m always slightly annoyed when I hear that some people can make ends meet on welfare without a job than they can by working. In these situations, it feels like the welfare system is failing the people it should be serving. They are left with no self-esteem, no motivation to contribute to society, and [...]

Gun Control
Just wanted to share this great post on gun control over at the RedNeckGoon blog on November 13 (I’m a little late–sorry).
2nd Amendment goes to court
This is a very important day for gun owners rights. Our very right to own a firearm might be in jeopardy, if the supreme court rules in favor of gun control [...]
Fargo sting operation raises honesty questions
Well, it’s not so much about honesty as it is about strategy: should police officers be able to use deception to keep other people safe? Something like undercover cops or creative sting operations like the pre-Ozzie bash sting in Fargo the other day?
From the KMXC news article (link above):
And while some are calling the departments [...]
Will Windbelt technology allow ordinary people to invest in wind farms?
I just discovered Windbelt technology. If it’s all it seems to be, everyone could benefit from the less-expensive alternative to wind turbines.
That could mean true economic development–the kind where ordinary people invest in wind farms and drive the production of wind energy. No need for government incentives!

One more Halloween hello
This one is from Jack Pumpkinstein, a pumpkin one of my children carved. See his stitches? He fell down and broke his crown and had to be stitched back together with dental floss. Then he went moldy (but you can’t see that here). Poor Jack Pumpkinstein!

Halloween Hello from Mandan
Hurray for Grizzly Groundswell! I’m glad Chad asked me to post here. Although I never paid much attention to politics and government before, this past year I discovered I have strong feelings concerning some of the things going on around us. Grizzly Groundswell will be a great outlet for these feelings.
I’ve never chosen any particular political party but I seem [...]
