SacBee: Anti-War Bias Hidden in Tale of Iraqi Girl Getting New Legs from US Army

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here is a sad example of the subtle anti-war bias that the MSM constantly hides in stories even when they are heartwarming tales of the great things our soldiers do for the people of Iraq. In this case, it is the Sacramento Bee putting in some almost subliminal anti-war sentiments in the mouth of Staff Sgt. Luis Falcon who worked his heart out to get some prosthetic legs for an 11-year-old Iraqi girl who lost her legs to a road side bomb. This is a wonderful story that is marred by the SacBee’s attempt to interject into the story doubt about the war effort in Iraq.

As it happened, Staff Sgt. Falcon made friends with little Shahad Abbas who had been the victim of a road side bomb that was detonated as she was walking to school. Her little brother was killed in the blast. Falcon had been visiting the girl and was bringing her gifts of toys and medical supplies when at last she asked him for new legs so that she might again walk to school.

To his credit, Sgt. Falcon worked his heart out to get the poor girl those prosthetic legs and he succeeded in his goals. It is a heartwarming tale and highlights just one of the thousands and thousands of similar stories being lived out by our soldiers on a daily basis throughout Iraq and Afghanistan.

But, even with all this tear provoking details, the SacBee couldn’t resist some subtle jabs at the war by characterizing Sgt. Falcon as being confused about the war and seeming to doubt why we are there. In two short declarations the Bee made of Sgt. Falcon a doubter.

In a war that Falcon no longer really understood, Shahad became his mission. So when she asked for legs, that became his mission, too.

… and…

So Falcon, who admits he wasn’t sure about the Iraq war, wasn’t sure he was making a difference, decided he’d get Shahad her legs.

And where did they get this interpretation that Falcon might have been thinking the Iraq war was somehow to be doubted? From one line they quote the Sgt. as having said to reporters.

“Sometimes I couldn’t figure out what made sense about being here. … Are we making a difference or are we not?” he said. “But I looked at her, right there, and it all made sense.”

That does not sound like a soldier wracked with doubt to me, how about you?

Yet, the SacBee went out of their way to twice say he was filled with doubt. When it is not just stated openly and boldly, that is the kind of subtle anti-war bias that infuses the entire MSM. And for them to have used this story to further their agenda… well, it is just beyond the pale.

  • Del Wasso says:

The mission is not “accomplished,” Warner…

Why are you sitting here, Warner, safe and sound in front of your computer monitor, criticizing those who want to bring Bush’s fiasco to a close, instead of standing up for your convictions, in Baghdad or Mosul?

Too old, or out of shape for the military?

I hear KBR is always hiring.

    PEACE.

  • @Del Wasso: Da’ Wasso, The missions are “accomplished” and continue to get “accomplished” each time something new pops up our military “accomplishes” whatever is asked of them.

Your Chicken Hawk attempt and personal attack is perfectly illustrative of your kindergarten mentality and demention as a Democrat Socialist Squirrel. Please, grab your nuts and be on your silly little way!

  • Del Wasso says:

Hey, Chad - if the mission were “accomplished” then we wouldn’t still be there, would we?

And were did you see a “personal attack? I simply asked why you weren’t over there: A very legitimate question.

You are the man posting derogatory epithets, with words like, “kindergarten mentality,” & “Democrat Socialist Squirrel.”

What a brave man you are, to cheerlead a war from the comfort of your E-Z chair, while denigrating those who want to bring this collosal mistake to an end.

You’re not just a hypocrite, Chad, you are a coward as well.

  • Wow do you even know what the “Mission Accomplishes” banner meant? If you were in the military you should know. Itmeant that the SHip that ended it’s tour had accomplished it’s mission. President Bush did nont put the “Mission Accomplished” banner up,it was the crew sayingto theri familiesthey arecming home.

And I just love your insinuation that if no one goes over there they can not be for the war or they are chicken hawks. Grow up and get out of grade school and realize that we can be for the war and not in the military. As with you I am too old to join and could probably never have joined because of bad knees, but does that mean I do not want us to win in Iraq or appreciate what those soldiers do for us everyday?? Hell No

So getting rid of a danger to our allies the Israelis is a collosal mistake. What happens when the UN and the red of the wek kneed world stops the sanctions on Iraq and they start thier WMD programs again. And getting rid of Saddam that was funding terrorists and hatred ofthe USA was bad.

Another chest-beating Republican hack demonstrates just how little he/she knows about the world around them…

The White House provided the banner - not the sailors aboard the Lincoln.

Besides, it was pretty obvious as to what the banner was supposed to mean:

“America sent you on a mission to remove a grave threat and to liberate an oppressed people, and that mission has been accomplished.” ~ GW Bush

    KBR is always hiring, Stix1972.

    What are you waiting for?

  • @Del Wasso: Del Wassup? So the Military did not accomplish this task? They were not in control and Hussein army was not defeated, dessimated? Wassup Del? Are you that dense Del?

Nuts is what I call Socialists Squirrels such as yourself!

    Now go play in traffic!

    ~Teddy Bear

  • @Del Wasso:

    Wassup Del?

Glad you served! I would thank you for your service but I would bet my last nickel you tried to defeat us from within there as well! I bet your fellow Marines were proud to share a mission with you! So you think just because you served in the worlds greatest military known to man, your stink’n think’n can not be drawn into question?

You are truly a Socialist Squirrel my friend and I am glad you are at least competent enough to realize that I was being derogatory to your stink’n think’n!

Brave, yes I am Del! E-Z chair? I don’t own one. Mistake? I don’t see one. I just see socialist squirrels like yourself and the rest of the nuts trying to do what socialists have been trying to do for ages, defeat us from within. You know what you are called by your comrades? “Useful idiots!”

    Wear that derogatory remark proudly!

    Now go play in traffic!

    ~Teddy Bear

  • Del Wasso says:

Ahhh… the arrogance of the radical right!!!

    I love it!!!

You fellas are a daily reminder of what real American patriots have to lose if we ever again allow our great nation to be ruled by our inferiors.

See you good folks on Election Day!!!

  • @Del Wasso: Wassup? Glad you are back on the GRIZZLY GROUNDSWELL! You would really be surprised how many socialist squirrels come around to find out what is really going on in America! In fact, most are afraid to let others know that they consume the truth on a regular basis. Reason being is that they DNC socialist flock often turn away from those who may flash an original thought, or for heaven’s sake, actually think for themselves so I am glad you are here keeping up with things. Even putting yourself out there so that now your fellow sheep know you have crossed the line! Good luck dealing with that! Chickens eat their own you know. You may want to be careful at the local espresso shop. The socialist squirrels you call friends may smell or sense that you have been exposed to rational thought!

I applaud you for doing what socialist squirrels rarely do and that is stand on your own two back paws and show yourself. Bravo!

    Now go play in traffic!
Your kindergarten banter amuses me, but if you have not noticed, this post is archived and unlike your Jimmy Carter stupidity, we have progressed to what is happening today and will be happening tomorrow in our backyards!

Oh, thanks for the hits on my Super Sexy Spring Chicks post, I bet you were really disappointed. On second thought, maybe you should stick around, this banter is somewhat fun and you do what socialist squirrels always do, prostrate yourself before us. It is humorous but not necessary. We on the conservative side of thought and knowledge don’t hate like I am sure you hold onto. No, we tend to just find humor in your antics. Try to point you in the right direction but watch you spin around like a drunk punch drunk socialist squirrel you are. It is really funny to watch but time after time, it is just sad.

Never fear there is always hope for you. You may actually get it through your thick head that we believe in you the individual. The DNC socialists believe in the program, law or institution that will keep individual freedom from you. Once you recognize this fact, the scales fall from your eyes and we will welcome you with open arms. Thwack you on the head anytime that stinkin’ thinkin’ resurfaces and give you time to see the error of your misconceptions.

    ~Teddy Bear

  • Del Wasso says:

    Isn’t this cute?

You fellas got the, “we are right, and all others are wrong” mentality down so pat that even Joe Goebbels would be smiling!!!

Without asking, I’m sure you even have the same black list of domestic enemies, except for, perhaps, having traded in Hitler’s Jews for Arab Muslims, that is.

Has it ever occurred to you that the five branches of our armed forces are, in fact, examples of the very socialist government work programs that you folks claim to despise so much?

No - probably not. I’m sure you don’t, “look at it that way.”

You fellas want smaller government - I want good government, no matter what the size.

Neither one of us has to be, “wrong.”

But, alas, you probably don’t “look at it that way.”

Until the water carriers for the failed policies of the Bush administration are willing to stand up and say, “Hey, we screwed up,” the Republican party is going to continue to be marginalized as a political force in this country. If you don’t see it like that, the big-wigs at the top of the RNC certainly do.

And so do America’s voters, if the outcomes of 2008’s three special elections are any indicator.

I won’t even mention the record-breaking numbers of democratic primary voters.

Is THAT what you want, Chad? Is THAT what you want Stix?

That is positively what your both getting.

Is your desire to be “right” so overwhelming that you’d see the GOP become a footnote in American politics?

Politics used to be defined as the fine art of debating opposing positions, and then MEETING SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE.

But there seems to be less and less middle, nowadays.

You fellas don’t want to meet in the middle - you want to be right, and have the last word.

Politics, it would seem today, has instead morphed into the art of defeating your political opposition, utterly, and completely.

And in case it might not have occured to you, that pits American neighbor against American neighbor, father vs. son, and husband vs. wife.

Those who refuse to give quarter, deserve none, and the November general election is looking a lot closer than a lot of folks would wish it to be.

Instead of thinking up of new and more ingenius ways to denigrate and belittle your neighbors simply because their vision for our Democratic Republic is different than yours, you might want to consider how to be more accomodating so that both you, and your neighbor, can achieve something of value.

    Just something to mull over…

  • @Del Wasso: Del, Wassup? It was great chatting with you tonight on that great google talk widget on the Grizzly Groundswell. Honestly, it seems to me that you have essentially a different understanding of money then I do. That is fine, I think you are wrong as you think I am wrong. It is all good.

Essentially you see socialism as an ideal system, I do not at all! Although, I do know how sedductive and elusive the sales pitch may be. I think socialism is something that all of us fall prey to at one time or another in our life. Irony is that my student loan that enslaves me yet enabled me to attain a socialist education indoctrination is carried by the very bank of North Dakota that the socialist Non Partisan League created. My own great grandfather may have voted in favor of the bank. I understand the attraction to socialism, but I am here to warn you and all of America of the evil and deception that socialism is and continues to be, enslaving Americans and stealing our wealth, Freedom and Liberty.

Middle Ground is not something I seek or uphold. An argument, conversation or even love affair is essentially not dualistic in simplicity. It is truly the simplest third dimension structure the tripod. No middle ground is found, only the “other” is defined. Is it closer to one or the other, maybe, but in order to uphold weight, and maintain it’s structure and form, it must define the location of that third leg. I do not have enough room here to expound on this radical new way of thinking but, if you are interested, we will take a walk along a path and we will find three sticks and I can explain it a little. Then let it form structure in your mind. Then you as well as myself can continue to unlock the truth’s found when you look at the world in a creative yet conservative way. Simplicity, Simplicity, Simplicity…indeed all is vanity.

It was great chatting with you and I think we must agree that we definately disagree. Your metal is tempered to another end of the pendulum my friend. Your enemies and fears are not my own. I encourage you to continue this conversation. Nothing is ever lost in a constructive conversation if both parties are truly honest and take ownership in it.

However, you have to admit, Socialist Squirrel was right on the money! You should wear it as a badge of honor though from your stand point. I wear all your accusations as enjoyable banter by my enemy. Even though both of us are American’s, we could be brothers and I still would think you were wrong, wrong, wrong. We are describing maybe even the same mallady, but our vantage points of reference are very different. That is ok. That is what makes life interesting, and disagreements from being pointless.

Enjoy and have a great night! I can see your comitment to your stance in your blog site. I think the content is drivel, but I applaud your craft! keep it up!

    ~Teddy Bear

Ps, feel free to publish your site info in the comments. I do not mind. I think everyone should go to the source. Let them judge for themselves. Oh, here it is:

http://www.shockedandawful.com/ I will do it for you! Traffic is always good!

  • Don’t you think you’ve wasted enough time with this hypocritical. lying troll, Chad?

  • Del Wasso says:

    Ahh… Todd!!!

    My skirt-wearing, cheerleading-the-war-from-the-sidelines, friend!!!

Please, post where I was being hypocritical, in anything that I have posted?

While you are at it, please post where you believe that I was “lying.”

    This should be interesting…

  • Del Wasso says:

NOTE: THere’s been a trend, ever since the Fairness Doctrine was done away with during the miserable Reagan administration, for one man’s opinions to have somehow morphed into everyone’s “facts.”

Truth can be tested, and will be “true” everytime, and for everyone.

Falsehoods, or lies, can also be tested, and will similarly be “false” everytime, and for everyone.

Everything else in between is nothing more than an opinion based on inadequate facts.

Now, you were about to say someting, Todd…?

  • @Warner Todd Huston: Nah, he is cute and fuzzy. I know socialist squirrels cause a lot of damage but can’t I keep him? I never get any good Socialist Squirrel pets to play with!

Actually I chatted with him the other night on google talk widget on the Grizzly Groundswell. His linear argument was flawed pretty badly and when he finally worked around to the summation, it was just an observation. I hope you don’t mind trolls, they don’t really cause me to get worried. I would rather have them here trying to prove their inability to comprehend the world around them, then actually being productive. It is funny when you think about it. All is vanity.

I really hate to turn away traffic. The way I look at it is like this, imagine a million socialist squirrels all in cages running on wheels. Those wheels are hooked up to my online empire. Each turn of the wheel is a visit to my site. If we can attract more Socialist Squirrels to waist more of their time trying to “educate” us, “union” style, life would be great!

In fact, maybe I need to do an illustration to get the concept across better. Maybe Dell Wasso will invite more of his friends.

    ~Teddy Bear
