Gwen Ifill Grows Gills
OK, I remember Gwen Ifill being absolutely awful during the 2004 VP debate but at least she hadn’t written a book about the Democratic presidential nominee that year.
A book, by the way, that’s to be published on Inauguration Day 2009. You think this woman doesn’t have a vested interest in an Obama victory? Yet she is going to be the impartial questioner at what all agree is the most important vice-presidential debate in history?
I’m often accused of ranting too much about MSM bias but, seriously kids, how can you not get pissed off at something like this?
One of the best ways clarify or gauge the level of bias is with the “shoe on the other foot” method. Can you imagine the vein-popping, eye-bulging animal rage that we would be seeing from the Daily Kos wraiths if Carl Cameron or anyone at FOX News had written a book about McCain with a “projected victory” publishing date and was asked to moderate anything?
The pansy Democrats bailed on a FOX debate last year whining about bias but CNN was allowed to put plants in the audience. Joe Biden says stupid things in his sleep and the only way you can find out about them is if you have A LOT of time to read right wing blogs. Sarah Palin says “you know” one too many times in a conversation and the writers at SNL start jerking off on Tina Fey’s old desk. The guy who inherited Walter Cronkite’s job tried to throw an election with a made-up story. Then there was the news earlier today that ABC was censoring conservative comments on its political blog.
It’s all disturbing but none of it touches having a debate moderator from a “news organization” that once gave donor lists to the Democrats and who has a vested financial interest in one party winning the election.
I don’t want to blog about this, I want to start making Molotov cocktails.
Let PBS do what it does best: give wistful communists some crap to listen to during rush hour. You can’t have people who represent an entity that’s always complaining about not having enough government funding officially involved in presidential politics. If Gwen Ifill has any journalistic integrity (oxymoron?) whatsoever, she’ll recuse herself from her moderator duties.
But she’s got a book to sell.
